My bathroom sucks. It's leaky and without going into further detail, it just plain outright sucks. Ok I lied, I will go into some detail.

1) There is a lack lack of a proper waterproof cement board behind the dark navy blue fake plastic tile crap the previous owners used for the bathtub surround. The board, not being sealed properly has been absorbing water and dumping it onto my living room ceiling.

2) The floor is a wood-look laminate. Laminate does not hold up in bathrooms very well. The installation is uneven and just outright bad.

3) 2 out of the 3 halogen bulbs in the light fixture refuse to work, even with new bulbs.

The biggest problem is the tub surround. I've been so afraid of what getting my bathroom fixed might cost me that I've been actually afraid to look. And at a point, I can't rely on waiting around for my dad to come over from Mississauga (which is an hour away and he already has a full time job) to fix it. So this week, I actually took some proactive steps towards fixing the problem and called a couple of contractors.

Contractor #1 will be coming over for an estimate on Saturday morning. However, they may not be able to get to the job for another 6 weeks. This might not be so bad as it could help me save a bit more money, even get my taxes done.

Contractor #2 just left my house 1/2 hour ago. He was nice and told me what had to be done… pretty much everything I thought needed to be done. He gave me a quote under $3000. I have about $5-7K I was ready to spend. He also assured me that there would probably be no major mold damage underneath. Obviously when he pulls things up

I am soooo eager to get this done. My bathroom, and subsequently the unsightly damage it left on my living room ceiling, had been a problem that would literally depress me for months. I never wanted anything fancy or too eclectic. I want a decor that would suit the style of this old house, something old english and “cottagey”. So being the HGTV nerd that I am, I'm excited about getting started.

I've been feeling overwhelmed by this whole process, I don't know why. I guess I'm just completely inexperienced with the whole homeowner process and of course, am entering into this with a little trepidation. I don't know what to expect, but I'm hoping it'll at least be decent.

At the least, I would just like the bathtub to stop leaking.

Perils of being domestic.  I just had delicious homemade tomato sauce boil up and splatter in my eye. Lucky for me, just as I removed the lid of the pot,  I saw the big bubble forming under the surface and knew that it was going to blow. In that split second, I shut my eyes. But now the skin around my eye is a little sore.

But you know, preliminary taste tests tell me that this chilli I'm making (a modified, vegetarianized Rachel Ray recipe, no less!)  will be delicious. 

Though at very many times, I do lean left (sometimes pretty far left!), I always keep one foot, or toenail rather, over the line. The world is so extremely complicated, I think it's ridiculous for people to claim they're right or left, just as it is to see things black or white. Politics, like anything else, is complicated and there are myriad of factors to take into consideration when it comes to agreeing with the way the state is being run.

When considering an overlord for your domain, you need to bring in all the facts, and what that person will be able to do for your country, and if there's anything at all you can do to help that ideal along.

In saying that, honestly, republican or no, would you vote for this guy. It seems that Mr. Guiliani is banking on the idea of him being some kind of 9-11 hero, but are these expenses really necessary. Is this person this awesome? Hmmmm. Sometimes I'm glad I'm not American.

I just got back from playing volleyball. A friend's team needed a replacement, and I agreed. I thought I'd suck after two years of not having played, but I think I easily got right back into it. I fumbled a bit, but I don't think I was horrible. This makes me happy, and is giving me thoughts of joining the league next year, maybe.
