    Thursday

I didn't play WoW tonight, instead I did fun stuff like housework.  Exciting, yes I know. There's a list of things I'd like to do, but at least I got some of it out of the way. I've been whittling away at errands all week. I got my dining room tidied up, vacuumed and dusted so there's an accomplishment right there.

I have attempted to overripen bananas to make banana bread over the course of a week. Unfortunately, this attempt failed. It must have been the warm weather, or more likely, the small infestation of fruit flies that have occured around the banana. There was a sour, rotten smell in my dining room, which at first I thought came from my wine fruit fly trap. However, after dumping the wine, the smell was still there, strong and pungent. I unwrapped the bananas from underneath the dish cloth…

Anyway, let's not get into the details. Essentially, the bananas are gone, in my green bin. I even threw the old wooden fruit bowl in the trash.  The dish cloth, i threw in the wash.

My limbs are pretty sore right now. :p  Tomorrow morning, back to the gym, and then the rest of Friday. Wheeeee…..

    The pact!

The thing that sucks for me about going to the gym is the part where I have to actually get there. The YMCA is a fifteen minute walk away from my house. There's a little mall with a big grocery store and a Starbuck's that I have to walk through. If I take my bike, the travel time is even less. There's a bus that stops right in front of the Y that will take me right downtown and straight to work if I needed it.

So the trip in itself full of a lot of nice conveniences. I just can't seem to get out of bed. Grab my gym clothes and a towel. Get to the bloody gym. It seems to me that's the hardest part of the entire thing. Once I'm there, things go by smoothly. I love working out. I love the activity, getting the blood moving, working my muscles and all that fun stuff. You'd think the hard part is over, however…

In a particularly lovely moment of brilliance, I went to take a shower after my workout, and snapped my locker shut.. Of course, I left my padlock keys in the locker. I only realized this as I returned to the locker to get dressed. Dripping wet, wrapped in a towel, I had a brief period of panic where I realized what the fuck was I supposed to do if I couldn't get my stuff out of that locker. My wallet, my cell phone, my bike helmet.. my house keys were all in there. Of course the old lady regulars who were around assured me this happens all; the time and that I shouldn't feel too bad. One volunteered to go to the front desk and ask the staff to come by with their big ass bolt cutters to cut the lock off.

Someone came around about 5 minutes later and with a snap the lock was cut. My padlock keys were attached to my YMCA membership card, sitting right on the top shelf. It was an embarassing few minutes, sitting there waiting with a towel around me, but it wasn't the most difficult thing I've had to endure at a gym. Getting out of bed and getting to the gym may still be at the top of the list in that regard.

I'm going to do this again tomorrow. I plan on seeing results in the next month or so. If I could keep it up.

    Life in point form

    * i need to totally delete a bunch of crap from my house and embrace some sort of minimalist lifestyle. Starting with the crap in the basement.

    * I have a sunflower and it has survived a weekend without being eaten.

    * I spent the weekend with the boy at various music events, including the nifty MIAC gala last night where I got a chance to dress up a bit, which hasn't happened in a while

    * I needed shoes and a purse for the aforementioned gala. Shopping in Yorkdale mall sucks. And why the fuck does every purse in the freaking mall look like horrible imitations of last year's leather, buckle and studs monstrosities pumped out by Guess and Baby Phat.

    * ended up with a cute little canvas purse by Roxy and a pair of maryjanes.

    * also ended up buying a limited edition brand of Dolly Girl perfume by Anna Sui. Perfume is my girly guilt pleasure. Some girls like purses, some like shoes, some like jewellry… me, I love perfume.

    * i left half a small bottle of merlot out to over the weekend to trap fruit flies that came in with my organic bananas. It works.

    * I hate fruit flies. There's one buzzing around my desk right now. I don't know where it came from, but if I get a chance, i'm feeding it to my betta.

    Owl lamps and wayward princesses…

Like an idiot that I am, I left my cat, Aya (lovingly referred to as Princess Aya because of her spoiled brat-ness nature), on the porch last night while I was doing stuff outside. I do that sometimes because Aya can’t stand to not have attention, so by the time I open the door to let her in, she’s done with the great outdoors. I went into the basement to clean up some paintbrushes and completely forgot about her. I was holed up in my bedroom all night, the only room in the house right now with air conditioning, so I wouldn’t have heard her meowing to get in.

I only realized that she was missing when I came downstairs this morning and opened the door to get the mail. She’s usually the first person to the door, because she always needs to be outside. She’s also usually present when I feed them in the morning. But she wasn’t there and only then did I realize that I left her outside. :(

I checked under the shed, because that’s where she was last time she went on an overnight stay, but I didn’t see anything.
I panicked a bit, called in late to work, and biked around the block hoping to catch a glimpse of her but I didn’t see her. As a last resort, I took the hose and sprayed underneath the shed, hoping I may have missed her the first time and if she was under there at all, she’d be scared out. I heard the jingling of her kitty tags and there she was. She popped up on the other side of the shed to avoid the spray of the hose. I scooped her up and brought her back home. She was a little dirty, but other than that, she was her usually whiny self.

This is the second time she had gotten out of the house and disappeared for a night. After the first time, I put a collar and a tag on her so this time I was slightly less worried. Her tag is engraved “Princess Aya”.

Aside from the kitty drama, my bedroom is very, very close to being done. I spent last night painting the closet. Everything looks great… unprofessional, but pretty damn good. I’m glad I did the extra work and painted the ceiling white because it just gives the room some more dimension I think. So now, the fun part.. dressing it all up. I was out shopping with friends last Sunday and we went to visit Urban Outfitters. I came away with my new bedside table lamps and they’re awesome.

I went with a light green lampshade (not the shade in the pic). The lamps work great with my “sky” theme. I’ll explain that concept some other time. ;)
