I feel like we were all over Toronto these past few days. We spent a chunk of Canada Day in High Park, Saturday we took a stroll to the Beach and July the 4th downtown for the Pride Parade. Needless to say, I’m still feeling it this morning. ;)

Protests in Toronto

I don’t know what else I can say about what’s going on in Toronto right now. Frankly, I thought that all the money they poured into the g20 summit in Toronto would have gone to waste because I believed that Toronto is really one of the nicest places to be in. The people are friendly, there’s so much stuff to do and I’ve always felt there was an aspect of welcoming and respect here. I really believed that.

So when we found out through blogs, twitter and then more from the news that the protests had turned violent because of the acts of a group of anarchists, I was disgusted and saddened. This isn’t the Toronto I know. I don’t know what the anarchists hope to achieve by destroying businesses and property. That Starbucks we saw repeatedly on the news that had been completely trashed… well I’m just thinking of the people employed there that may not be able to work until the place is fixed up.

I know in my heart that these group of people aren’t part of the larger peaceful protests that have been organized. I don’t know what they really think they’re accomplishing except causing a lot of heartache and financial loss for people working to get by. Your message is lost with every window they smash. It’s pathetic and it’s not the city I know and love.

I respect and admire the Toronto police who I think have been doing an admirable job. Sure protesters aren’t going to like them right now, but I do think they need to be there. They aren’t a perfect institution but it’s a necessary one, and I know it can be thankless.

But you know what, this is Toronto. We’ve got a good reputation, we’ll spring back. Peace, everyone.

I was in my room actually when I felt everything start to shake and generally freak out. First thought, maybe it was construction or a big truck passing by. It must have been a really humungous truck to make every part of my room and the top floor of the house shake like that. When it kept going, and when I looked out the window and didn’t see any trucks, that’s when I started getting a little concerned.

About an hour later I read on the internet that there was an earthquake. After I ruled out construction and trucks, I figured there was an earthquake. I think I might have felt a small tremor once years ago, but I knew earthquakes in the area happened. I never felt one that significant though. Exciting!

I love playing with different aspects of the internet.

My latest toy might go nicely hand in hand with my new Tumblr. Do I need another blog site really? It definitely seems like an easier way to show off pictures. Me, being a more visually oriented person may prefer this to Twitter, to be honest. I have to see how it works on my Blackberry.

In the meantime, I really want all my pics in one place again, so I’m going to attempt to recreate my own gallery. Now off to play with my new camera. :D

Well, this is the lovely creature that followed me home the other day. >_> I have a feeling I will be having a lot of fun with this for a while now.

Still playing around, learning new things. Of course, my dad had to bring out his old Konica to compare. That antique still works, by the way. It’s too bad the lenses don’t fit, he has a bunch of them. :)

Ride For Heart

Yesterday morning, I had the most awesome opportunity to bike the Don Valley Parkway for the Ride for Heart Toronto 2010. I’ll be honest, I’m a bit out of shape and hadn’t ridden more than 10km at a time up until this point. I wasn’t sure if I was able to handle it. But suprisingly the ride itself was not that bad… a little saddle sore towards the end, but it really was so much fun. I feel like less of a wimp because I was able to do this on my fixed. No gears, baby. :D

I brought my camera with me, but not my memory card. Doh. However, I did manage to share some pics from my BlackBerry over Twitter. :)

Taken at my old house, about a day before I moved out. I haven’t worn these shoes in a long time. But I still keep them around. They’re pretty.
