    City cycling

I took my bike out to Toronto for the first time ever. I don’t know why I hadn’t before… I guess there were too many excuses ranging from the weather being bad or me needing to carry a lot of stuff. This weekend, I went to visit the boy. I stuffed my bike under the Coach Canada bus and once we got to Toronto, I rode off on it instead of taking the subway.

I visited my old neighbourhood around the Carlton and Sherbourne area, and then rode through Cabbagetown where I also used to live. It was neat, but somehow, the experience wasn’t as novel as I thought it would be. Riding downtown didn’t feel dangerous at all. I wasn’t threatened by door prizes or speeding SUVs. The worse I got was some drizzle and the awful conditions of the road. Riding to my boyfriend’s apartment took about half an hour and it was a lot more fun than taking the subway.

I rode back to the bus terminal on Monday morning to catch my bus back in. Again, it didn’t seem like a big deal. Taking the subway in the morning as everyone’s piling on board for work has always been depressing. The immobility and the lack of air makes you sleepy. No one looks happy. Everyone is either tired, or simply looks depressed, and I don’t blame them. There is something to be said about personal transportation. In my case, I have a bike, which is more than ideal for me right now.

Honestly though, I think I wouldn’t mind at all if I never had to use the subway to commute ever again.

might as well get on the bandwagon

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office confirmed that Canada will have an election October 14. Having another election has been looming over Canadians’ heads for a while now, while both parties figure out if it’s the right time or not, I figure. However, this will be intriguing, as I’m uncertain if Canadians like or dislike the current government enough to make alterations.

Personally, I’m not sure if the Liberal’s Stephane Dion would be a good PM. In fact, I’m having awful doubts about our Liberal party for a long time now. And while I’m just ideologically against backing the PC party because of their social right wing-nutism, I am not in hate with Harper. I do hope that the New Democrat Party have a fighting chance this time around, but in all honesty, this is an election between the PCs and the Liberals.

The worse that could happen is that the PCs win a majority this time around because of how seemingly tame he’s been while he’s been in power in a minority government, and Mr. Harper, unencumbered by all those Liberals taking up seats in his house, lets his true colours show. We’ll have to see in October.

I know Canadian politics are so much more drier than the politics in the states right now, but we have to get informed and vote.

    Messy messy

I’m currently working on a new site design, and though it’s live, I’m still doing a lot of the fine tuning tweaks. So depending on the time of day, a random visitor may see the new design, or the old design.  There are so many little elements that I still need to adjust. Boring!

If you’re visiting this URL by chance, you may notice that i’m doing some work to my new wordpress blog. Most of my Livejournal posts (from 2004) have been imported over, and I’m currently working on the site template. Please excuse the mess and thank you for visiting!
