The New Apartment

The New Apartment

Well, I suppose I should mention that my life has gone through some major upheavals this summer. I sold my family home, broke up with my boyfriend (we’re still friends!), and moved into a spiffy new apartment.  So I chronicled the move somewhat and here are the pictures.  I know I’m not the only one who likes to peek into other people’s places. (insert jokes about how I have the perfect job for that… ahem.)

Enough with the parentheses, on to the visuals below the cut.

I kept my searching confined to mostly the east end of Toronto. I don’t know, I suppose it’s more hip to live in the West with the rest of the cool kids, but I’ve done my time in the west end. I hung out in Liberty Village when we called it Parkdale. /before it was cool. >_>

So to the East we go. Because seriously, Queen East is the new Queen West.

My building is kind of old. I was sold on the “charm”.  Do I care that the floors are crooked. Charm.  And I can see streetcars from my window. :D

The management totally reno’ed the kitchen and bathroom. I was also sold on the modern fixtures. There is a huge appeal to living in a space where no one has ever used the stainless steel fridge.

The space which is the bedroom.

Part of the charm. The antique radiator with the caked on metal paint. So steampunk, I love it.

I bought a lamp.

Unpacking! These dishes hadn’t seen the light of day since I moved from St. Catharines.

Blue willow plates. I still love these.

My Jack Skellington and Sally mugs.  I either got these from Gothauctions.com or eBay. Throwback to my auction fiend days.  <3

My first pizza in my apartment. It’s a Bianca from Pizzaiolo.

I took a trip to Walmart of all places to restock my new kitchen. Shiny.

(And yes that’s an IRON CHEF Cat Cora frying pan. Allez cuisine!!!!)

The furniture store delayed the delivery of my furniture an additional two days. It finally got here this past Saturday.  Having a couch and a bed makes the place so much better.  Right. (also I’m glad that I didn’t end up getting IKEA everything. I managed to stay somewhat in my furniture budget!)

The naked bed! :O

And then at some point I finally brought real food into the house and made myself dinner. The grocery store had maitake mushrooms, so instead of using shitake in my crappy noodles, I used fancy mushrooms instead.

It looked better than it tasted. (kind of bland) :p

Spritzers are my new thing.

And then I put together my dinette set.

Thaddeus moved in with me today. He explored every corner of the place, and seemed to approve. He used his litterbox properly and ate when I fed him, so I think he’s settling in okay.  This is kind of a big deal for me. A home isn’t a home without a kitty. :)

And that’s the tour!

@Keoni, I never thought of cats washing themselves. Thaddeus does it all the time anyway, and thank you about his name. I kind of agree. It was funny when he was a silly kitten, now he’s kind of grown into it. ;)

I love the radiator too. It started getting cold so I managed to turn it on without blowing the place up. Now the entire apartment is a little warmer than I’d like, LOL. I guess that’s the disadvantage there, I can’t really control the temperature. :p

Mela, I love your new place! I’m a little jealous haha, I’m a total sucker for original details (like that gorgeous radiator).

My parents always taught me that when a cat washes himself, he’s at ease. I’m sure Thaddeus approves of your new place too :) Also, that’s a really cool name for a cat! :D

You may have your spritzers; I prefer my wines! ^_~*

I love those blue plates! *_* Heck, I like anything w cobalt blue in/on it

Maitake? Never heard of them, but they look neat. Sorry your meal was a letdown although it looked beautiful. Needed more seasoning mayhaps? ^^

Your bedroom looks pretty dang big – hell bigger than mine 0.o

@Jean, thank you very much. I’m in love with this space, and I think Thaddy does too. :) And don’t you worry, the wine will flow soon enough! :D

Maitake mushrooms are a wood fungus that’s used a lot in Japanese food apparently. I only just noticed they were available here, and I love mushrooms. I think all that dish needed was a little more sauce. I added more to the leftovers and it was better.

And the bedroom only really *looks* big. (wide angle lens ;) )

What a beautiful place, I’m so jealous! I’d love to in that area as well, you’re very lucky.

      (Torontonians unite :D)

@Pyxis Thank you. I don’t know if it’s much to be jealous about, but I admit, there’s a lot of things about it I love. Especially the location! *Toronto high-five!*

What a cute place! It’s very charming and has great potential. You’re so lucky to have a nice, updated kitchen too.

I’m glad kitty approves or else you would have to get a new place ;)

I really love the radiator and plate shots ^.^

Thank you Darkestdawn! I think the apartment has great potential too… now that the furniture is in, it does seem larger than I thought it was. The kitchen was a big selling point for me. It’s small, but not that difficult to work with. LOL, if Thaddy didn’t approve, you’re right, I’d probably have to find somewhere else to be. O_o

Kristina, it’s true! Every home needs a cat. I am really glad he didn’t freak out and hide when he got here like some cats tend to do. :)

I actually did buy roman shades. Was a complete SOB to get them installed. I still need to take pics of the place “coming together!” :D

It’s lovely! I agree, a home isn’t home without the kitty. (or kitties, in my case). I especially love the floors. Next thing on the to-purchase list, though? Curtains. I’m glad the kitty settled in well and quickly.
